Collaboration between Supervisors, Principals, and Teachers: The Key to Strengthening Competence Towards Quality and World-Class Madrasahs

Abstract

This article explores the importance of collaboration among supervisors, principals, and teachers as the foundation for strengthening educators’ competencies and improving the quality of education in Islamic schools (madrasahs). This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach through literature review and limited field studies at MAS Bahrul Ulum, Muaro Jambi Regency. Data were collected from relevant literature, observations, and informal interviews with supervisors, principals, and teachers. Thematic analysis was applied to classify the findings into four major themes: the role of supervisors, the leadership of principals, teachers’ commitment, and the outcomes of holistic collaboration. The findings indicate that supervisors serve not merely as evaluators but also as facilitators and mentors in enhancing teachers’ competencies and managerial effectiveness of the institution. Principals with transformational and visionary leadership styles are able to foster a collaborative working culture, encourage innovative learning, and integrate both religious and global values. Meanwhile, teachers with strong professional commitment significantly contribute to the creation of innovative, meaningful, and technology-based learning. The holistic collaboration among these three key stakeholders leads to improved learning quality, strengthened educator competencies, and enhanced competitiveness of madrasahs toward realizing the vision of “Independent and Global Madrasah.” Thus, such collaboration can be regarded as a best practice that is worth replicating in other madrasahs as a strategic effort to develop Islamic education that is both high-quality and globally competitive.
